This is the only place in Alaska where you can mush your own team of dogs in the summer!
This is not a just a tour kennel; it is the training grounds and homestead of 4-time Iditarod champion, Dallas Seavey. All the dogs are either retired racing dogs (many have won the Iditarod), are currently on the race team, or are the next generation in training to become the next great champions! Our dogs are active and training year-round. As a guest musher here, you become part of Dallas Seavey Racing's year-round training program.
This experience is unique in that you are a part of a VERY small group: you and one other guest will be driving your own personal team of dogs through our beautiful and private, forested racing trails. The group size for this experience is usually 6 or less people, with a guide assigned to each group, creating a very personal experience.
All of our dogs are extremely friendly, and love attention. Cuddle puppies, romp with young dogs, or walk with champions.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

You will be picked up in downtown Talkeetna by our shuttle, and driven out to the kennel by a knowledgeable guide.
After arriving at the kennel, watch as your own personal team of dogs are hooked up to one of our dryland mushing rigs. You and one other guest will board a rig, one person driving and one person riding.
You will then take off, following one of our experienced mushing guides, on a 45-minute mush through our beautiful, private, heavily-forested racing trails.
Halfway through the mush, your group will arrive at a checkpoint and give the canines a short water break. This a great time to snap some photos with your dog team.
After your team has cooled off, the drivers and the passengers will switch places on the rig for the 20+ minute mush back.
Back in the kennel, get a picture with your team and give them a final pat before walking through the kennel and learning all about how these world-class athletes live, play, and train, from puppy to retiree.
Throw the ball, walk with the dogs, or just have a seat and snuggle a puppy in our giant run pen.
You can visit the gift shop and check out Dallas Seavey’s Iditarod trophy display before heading back to Talkeetna.

Visit the Flower Homestead, a musher’s homestead tucked away just south of Talkeetna in the Boreal forest of Alaska.
Here we live a sustainable life together with the Flower Kennel Sled dogs. The kennel is unique in that the sled dogs are an integral part of our real authentic off-grid Alaskan life. The dogs help with hauling water from our spring, building material and firewood we harvest from our homestead to keep warm and cozy during the Alaska winters.
We grow, harvest and gather most of our own food and live a self-reliant lifestyle as much as possible.
We are committed to our dogs and the Flower Kennel is their forever home. Our tours are an exclusive opportunity to see how and why we live in the far North. We are a small locally owned operation and our tours are casual and personal.
Welcome to our home.

Itinerary

Welcome to our home.
Where you will meet the sled dogs up close and learn about our off-grid year-round Alaskan homestead.
The dogs are part of the homestead lifestyle and also our extended family (they all come in the cabin for their daily couch time and get lots of play time around the homestead). Besides exploring Alaska together, they also provide the much needed hauling muscles in winter when we cut firewood and haul water from the spring.
When visiting the homestead you will learn about sled dogs and mushing in general and meet each dog individual. Each dog has a different characters and requires specific care and training to excel in their work and life. There will be plenty of opportunity to cuddle with the dogs and take pictures.
Over a cup of coffee or tea, you will be shown around in our off-grid dry cabin (no utility connections or running water) and will see first hand what it takes to run all the systems needed to live in Alaska in summer as well as in winter. We collect our own water, provide for out own electricity and heat, and grow, gather, bake, and ferment most of our food and try to live a simple sustainable life as much as possible.
The tour is setup very personal to encourage questions and an in depth experience.
Don’t miss out on this unique experience to see how we Alaskan live.
How to dress: Wear clothing which you don’t mind getting dirty. Avoid any dang-lies like scarves, sweater strings or long loose hair. Sled dogs are playful and rowdy. Wearing durable outdoor footwear and bringing rain gear is highly recommended.
Things to know before you book:
* A basic knowledge of English makes the trip more enjoyable.
* This is not a fancy tourist attraction, but a personal peek into a musher’s homestead life.
* We do not provide cart rides. Our dogs sport a heavy coat and will overheat quickly in the warm Alaskan summers.
* We do not have indoor plumbing, and sport an outhouse.
* Due to the nature and rowdiness of our sled dogs, we do not accepted children 7 years old and under.
* The tour requires some walking on an incline gravel trail.
* We do not have puppies.
* Smoking is not allowed on the homestead.
* No pets of any kind are allowed on the homestead.
